10 Tips to Improve Your Reading Skills
1. You don't have to be a great reader to get the point.
Some people read fast and remember everything. Others read slowly and take a couple of times to get all the information. It doesn't matter, really, so long as when you read, you get the information you're seeking.
2. Know WHY you're reading.
Are you reading for entertainment or to learn something? Decide why you're reading before you start and you'll greatly improve your comprehension and your enjoyment.
3. You don't need to read everything.
Not every magazine, letter, and email you receive contains information you need. In fact, most of it is simply junk. Throw it away, hit the delete key! Just doing this will double the amount of time you have available to read.
4. You don't need to read all of what you DO read.
Do you read every article of every magazine, every chapter of every book? If so, you're probably spending a lot of time reading stuff you don't need.
Be choosy: select the chapters and articles that are important. Ignore the rest.
5. Scan before you read.
Look at the table of contents, index, topic headers, photo captions, etc. These will help you determine if, a) you have a real interest in this reading, and b) what information you're likely to get from it.
6. Prioritize your reading.
You can't read everything all at once (and wouldn't want to). If it's important, read it now. If it's not, let it wait.
7. Optimize your reading environment.
You'll read faster and comprehend more if you read in an environment that's comfortable for you.
8. Once you start, don't stop!
Read each item straight through. If you finish and have questions, go back and re-read the pertinent sections. If you don't have questions, you got what you needed and are ready to move on.
9. Focus.
Remember, you're reading with a purpose, so focus on that purpose and the material. If you lose interest or keep losing your place, take a break or read something else. You can keep track of where you are by following along with your hand. This simple technique helps you focus and increase your concentration.
10. Practice!
The more you read, the better reader you'll become (and smarter, too)! So, feed your mind: read!

ROBOTS
RobotsWhen will we have robots? We already have many kinds of robots! Industries use a variety of robots and now robots are becoming more common in the home.
The Husqvarna company makes a lawn mowing robot called the Auto Mower. The robot has sensors that detect where objects are in the yard and it maneuvers around them. The robot can cut the grass while you relax on the patio with a glass of lemonade! Also, Eureka now makes a robotic vacuum cleaner. Like the robot lawn mower, the vacuum cleaner automatically detects where the furniture is and vacuums around it.
Cars are becoming robots now that many cars have GPS (Global Positioning Systems) on them. A car with a GPS system can give you directions on how to go somewhere, tell you where the closest gas station is, and, some day in the future, will drive itself. You will take a nap or read while the car drives itself to your destination.
We even have robotic pets now. The Sony company makes a robotic dog named Aibo that can sit, stand, and walk like a regular dog but can also communicate and take pictures! Aibo understands certain commands, like a dog does, such as "Sit down", "Stand up", "Turn right", etc. If you ask Aibo a question such as "How old are you?", its eyes will flash the number of years old it is. Aibo is also a great guard dog. He can patrol the yard and take pictures with a built in camera of anything suspicious.

How Do Robots Help Doctors? How Do Robots Help Doctors?By Rose Kivi
Robot Assisted Medical Care
Robot Assisted Medical Care
- Robots assist doctors in performing their jobs efficiently. The role of robots in the medical field is established and is likely to increase as technology progresses. Robots used in the medical industry do not necessarily resemble the robots in science fiction movies. The robots in the medical industry do not function independently and do not diagnose patients. They are not replacements for doctors. They are technologically advanced tools to assist doctors.
- Robots are used by some surgeons to assist them in complex surgical procedures. Surgical robots are robotic arms that are controlled by a surgeon through computer equipment attached to the robot. The computer controlled robot, attached with video equipment, gives the surgeon a magnified view of the surgical procedure. The robotic arm controlled can perform surgical procedures with more precision than a human hand could. Even a surgeon with the steadiest hands can not stay as still as a robotic arm. The human eye can not see as well as a magnified computer image. Robotic arms can reach areas that are unreachable by a human hand. Combining the steady movement, enhanced visual ability and extended reach provided by robotic technology gives surgeons the ability to perform complex surgeries with a higher success rate.
- Robots are being used by some doctors to monitor patients in the hospital setting. Doctors can control the robots remotely allowing the doctors to interact with the patients from a remote setting. Using the robot, doctors can view and communicate with the patients without even being there. While these robots do not replace the doctors need to physically interact with patients, they do allow the doctor to check in with patients when the doctor is not able to be at the hospital. Potentially, the robots give doctors the ability the check on their patients more frequently. A doctor can be at home when off duty and still check on a patient when needed, giving the doctor access to their patients twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.
- Scientists in Israel have developed tiny micro robots that can crawl inside the blood vessels of a human body. These micro robots would give doctors the ability to view inside the body of a patient in a way they never could before. Micro robots could change the way doctors diagnose patients. The invention of this new technology, while not currently available, is exciting nonetheless.
